The 2001/02 Sporting Lisbon shirt: Champion again, plus the Cup and the Supercup
From 2001/02, the new crest of the Sporting Clube de Portugal started to be introduced, and there are shirts both with the old and the new symbol. One must note that in the football shirts, worn by the players or in replicas, the SCP acronym on top of the crest is missing, which is against the Sporting statutes.
This was also the first season since the unfortunate Adidas Sporting shirts with white sleeves, where the home Sporting Lisbon jersey started to present innovative elements. There was a completely white area starting in the shoulders and down to the armpits. Some of the stripes are thus no longer stripes, as they are interrupted on the sides. Sporting Clube de Portugal would only have perfect shirts again the Centennial year and then with the new 2011 2012 Sporting shirt.
The away jersey was mainly all black, with fluorescent green about where the white area is in the home shirt, that is, the shoulder area.
To make up for the innovations in the hooped home shirt, the Stromp shirts of this season are some of the best Sporting has had, with a cord in the collar giving a touch of class and tradition that always have been hallmarks of the Club, and without sponsor: a pure Stromp Sporting Lisbon shirt.
The sponsorship and its publicity remained the same, without changes.
Sporting Clube de Portugal was, once again after only one year, national champion, winning the league, the Portugal Cup and the Super-cup against the defeated Cup finalist. It was a glorious season, owing much to the countless goals of Jardel, the best european scorer, often served by the great artist Joao Pinto.
